Last week I had the opportunity to represent Gumiyo on a panel to discuss the latest developments concerning location-based marketing. Conducted by the Word of Mouth Marketing Association (WOMMA) and sponsored by the Los Angeles Times, the panel included Ethelbert Williams, VP of brand development at Mr. Youth; Alice Lankester, VP of Marketing at Loopt; and Anthony DiResta, partner at Mannatt, Phelps, and Phillips. Number of people accessing news and information on their mobile device more than doubles in a year
Reston, VA. March 16, 2009 – comScore, Inc. (NASDAQ: SCOR), a leader in measuring the digital world, today reported that the number of people using their mobile device to access news and information on the Internet more than doubled from January 2008 to January 2009. Among the audience of 63.2 million people who accessed news and information on their mobile devices in January 2009, 22.4 million (35 percent) did so daily; more than double the size of the audience last year…

Use of Social Media via Mobile Sees Considerable Gains in Past Three Months
RESTON, VA, March 10, 2010 – comScore, Inc. (NASDAQ: SCOR), a leader in measuring the digital world, today released data from the comScore MobiLens service, reporting key trends in the U.S. mobile phone industry during the three month period between October 2009 and January 2010. The report ranked the leading mobile original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and smartphone operating system (OS) platforms in the U.S. according to their share of current mobile subscribers age 13 and older, as well as popular activities and content accessed via the subscriber’s primary mobile phone. The January report found Motorola to be the top handset manufacturer overall with 22.9 percent market share, while RIM led among smartphone platforms with 43.0 percent market share.

We’re not saying anything here that no one else has said. In fact, this post is simply our amalgamation of a few recently released reports and articles by Equation Research, The Nielsen Company, and other sources. Original or not, we still think it’s helpful for our partners to have easy access to this information for their own mobile endeavors.
No doubt about it, mobile apps are cool. They take advantage of the iPhone’s elegant user interface, and they can be well-integrated into other device features such as GPS and maps. However, as mobile bandwidth improves and smartphone ownership increases dramatically, the ultimate mobile application is the mobile Internet.
