New data on Mobile Web usage from Nielsen

Nielsen recently announced new data showing a 34% increase in Mobile Web.  We at Gumiyo believe in an integrated, multi-technology approach to a mobile strategy that includes SMS, MMS, iPhone applications, and the Mobile Web.  While all of these platforms have unique strengths and practical applications, many view the Mobile Web as having the greatest growth and potential due to the sheer number of consumers with access. 

Arguably, iPhone applications offer the best mobile user-experience and its share of the smart phone market will undoubtedly grow rapidly.  Yet, businesses should not overlook Gartner’s Q2-2009 report that the Apple iPhone has a 13.2% share of the U.S. smart phone market.  In other words, we believe strongly in value-driven iPhone applications, but they do not by themselves make a complete mobile strategy and currently miss 86% of the consumer market.  A smart Mobile Web strategy goes a long way toward reaching the rest of that market.
